Quadrature
Quadrature est un collectif d’artistes qui réunit Juliane Götz, Sebastian Neitsch et Jan Bernstein, jusqu’en 2016. Leurs explorations artistiques gravitent autour d’intérêts scientifiques et d’expérimentations physiques, se nourrissant des innovations technologiques, de la recherche académique comme source d’inspiration. Ils ont en commun une inclination particulière pour les machines et pour l’espace.
Leur travail croit et se fortifie grâce à l’obtention de prix et de bourses qui leur sont attribués. Ainsi, en reconnaissance de leurs créations, ils ont été soutenus par l’European Digital Art and Science Networken, en collaboration avec ESO, pour une résidence et une récompense. L’European Souther Observatories leur attribue une mention d’honneur à l’occasion du prix Ars Electronica. L’Akademie Schloss Solitude leur apporte un soutien financier au cours de leur résidence.
Ils ont également bénéficié d’une bourse de la part du Kunstfond à Bonn. Leurs travaux ont été présentés à l’occasion de nombreuses expositions et festivals en Europe ainsi que dans le monde entier. On peut citer notamment l’Ars Electronica, le Cynetart d’Hellerau, la Cité des artistes de Vienne, la Biennale internationale de Montréal ou encore au Musée d’Art Moderne SantralIstanbul à Istanbul.
Through transdisciplinary practices, Berlin-based artist duo Quadrature seeks to explore the world and cosmoses that surround us. Juliane Götz and Sebastian Neitsch’s practice encompasses scientific interests and physical experiments, drawing on technological innovations and academic research as sources of inspiration. Both artists, graduates of the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle, Germany, are particularly interested in the realms of machine and space.
For Quadrature, the implementation of technology into its practice is essential in interpreting and conveying its understanding of the worlds around us to its audience. The duo utilizes transdisciplinary mediums to create dynamic artworks that not only capture the intersection between art and science, but also the convergence of physical and digital realms.
Members Juliane Götz, Sebastian Neitsch, and formerly Jan Bernstein (until 2016), have won several awards and scholarships for their artistic practice, including recognition by the Prix Ars Electronica in 2015 and 2018, scholarships from the Kunstfonds Bonn, Akademie Schloss Solitude, and LaBecque, as well as a fellowship from PODIUM Esslingen and the Hertz-lab of the ZKM Karlsruhe(Centre of Art and Media). Their works are shown around the world in various festivals and exhibitions.
