Fan Xi

Artiste chinoise Fan Xi (née en 1984)

Chinese artist Fan Xi (b. 1984) primarily works with photography, in which she creates seemingly surreal and fantastical compositions without the use of post-production software. Fan is interested in questioning the “real” – specifically, the way in which objects are generally portrayed in conventional still life artworks. Fan completed her undergraduate studies in sculpture at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing (where she is currently based). In her works, she experiments with capturing objects using novel perspectives, by arranging and photographing objects so that they seem to be upheld in infinite, non-visual spaces from viewers’ perspectives. Fan’s photographs challenge the perceived physical distance between audience and artwork, leading to the unexpected establishment of intimate connections to these images.

Born in 1984, in Shandong, China. Lives and works in Beijing, China.
